United ace admits his situation may look like a ‘big shambles,’ but insists he feels ‘well protected’ by the club

Manchester United must make concrete decisions on numerous players who face uncertain futures this summer.

Among the mix is Christian Eriksen, whose contract doesn’t expire until 2025.

It is, however, highly unlikely that the experienced Dane sees out his deal, given that his game time has reduced significantly in both his and Erik ten Hag’s sophomore campaigns.

He became one of the Dutchman’s first-ever signings at Old Trafford in 2022 and went on to play an integral role across the 2022/2023 term; he made 37 starts in all competitions as well as seven outings as a substitute, despite being sidelined for an extended period with a knee injury from February to April.

This season, Eriksen has made just 11 Premier League starts and a further two in the Champions League. He returned to the teamsheet in United’s past two outings due to Casemiro having to deputise for the sidelined centre-halves alongside Harry Maguire in the backline.

Eriksen addresses United speculation

Speculation has frequently circulated over the 32-year-old’s future beyond this season and how he has been left feeling aggrieved by his lack of game time. However, Eriksen has now spoken out to squash such rumours, insisting that he is content with how his time at the club has played out.

“It’s a big shambles if you have to follow it from the outside only,” he told Danish outlet Tipsbladet. “I would say that we are well protected by the club, and the players have a good community, so in that way, we protect each other in the way that we can.

“But there is a lot going on around the club, and of course, if you open up the media a little too much, you can fall into it. It is special and hard to read, and I am sure that it must be hard for the younger players when you first arrive and then you have to go through this. It is something else. But there’s really nothing you can do about it. 

“It is a big club, and there is a lot of focus. When things go well, it’s heaven, and when things go badly, it’s hell, and it almost happens within two days of each other.”
