Report: Indianapolis Colts Showed Interest In Justin Fields Trade
Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Unless you’ve been out of the loop, it’s likely you’re aware that the Pittsburgh Steelers have made a significant move by acquiring former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields in a trade. However, what might have escaped your attention is the reported interest from the Indianapolis Colts in the former first-round pick.

Benjamin Allbright disclosed that the Colts reached out regarding Fields.

In the end, the Colts opted to secure veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who will serve as a backup to and mentor for Anthony Richardson.

Given that discussions between the Colts and the Bears didn’t advance, it suggests that the deal wasn’t solely about draft picks. The Steelers only parted with a 2025 sixth-round pick, which could escalate to a fourth-round selection if Fields surpasses playing 51% of snaps this season.

Though it’s speculative, if draft picks weren’t the deciding factor for the Colts, it’s possible that Fields’ preference played a role. Ian Rapoport mentioned that “at least four additional teams inquired about trading for Fields, but Fields’ representation requested he not be traded there. He had his sights set on the Steelers.”

For Justin Fields, this move seems to be the optimal choice, offering him the opportunity to potentially become the Steelers’ quarterback of the future. Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts have solidified their quarterback position with Richardson.

While Joe Flacco’s addition may not grab headlines, he could be the guiding influence that Richardson needs as he aims to develop into a franchise quarterback.
