The Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association of Ontario announced Thursday that Steve Lym has been appointed executive director.

"We are excited to have Steve back in Ontario," said HBPA president Sue Leslie. "Steve has comprehensive experience and knowledge of the horse racing industry, especially within Ontario."

Lym has most recently been managing the Palm Meadows training center for the Stronach Group, prior to which he managed the Santa Anita racing department. Before his work for Stronach, Lym worked at Woodbine Racetrack for 32 years, starting as a clocker, Equibase chartcaller, racing secretary and director of the Thoroughbred racing department. From 2003 to 2013, Lym served as its racing secretary, then in 2013 became director of racing until his departure in 2018.

Lym has also served on multiple industry committees: Breeders' Cup Selection committee, World's Best Horseracing Rankings Executive Committee, Canadian Graded Stakes Committee, Board Member of the Avelino Gomez Foundation, and as a member of several industry working groups.
